What I’m Into: November Edition

I love to see what others love. I scour through Amazon reviews before I buy anything. But really, I love my friend’s recommendations the most. If you love it, and I love you, then maybe it’s something that will be full of awesome.

There’s a lot of these kinds of posts on the web, and as I’ve met and connected with more bloggers, I’ve gotten to read reviews which have led me to lovely handmade shops, new albums and artists, wonderful books, blogs, and television. I’ve found products I love and hairstyles and recipes worth trying out.

My friend Anne did a  post this month (actually last month since I’m a slacker) on her November favorites and linked up with Leigh. I thought I’d join in the fun this month and round-up some of the things I’m into.

So read along and I’d love to hear what you love in the comments. I’m always looking for new awesome.  And if you blog, make sure to link up!

This month I’ve taken a little self-made challenge. To get dressed every day, put on makeup, and be ready for whatever may come my way. I’ll be blogging about that more in the future,  I even took full length pictures of myself  y’all, but for now let me tell you my new love.

Red lips.

I am  a makeup lover. I love to try new things and colors and shades. This month I’ve felt festive and fun and decided to give red lips a try. I’ve used red lipstick before with mixed results and I’ve come to realize the key is the perfect shade. For me, this means a blue red with no orange tint.

I love MAC Ruby Woo and Russian Red. They work on everybody and with a little lip liner, they last forever. Red lips make me feel a little more daring, a teeny bit artsy, and kinda feisty.

Good Reads

I just started reading A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society. We’re reading it as a church and I’m liking it so far. I always read more than one book at a time. Usually, it’s about 5-8.

This month I’m also reading and rereading Old Friend from Far Away: The Practice of Writing Memoir, Walking on Water, The Glass Castle, The Forgotten Garden, Every Body Matters and Hailey Morgans, The No Brainer Blog e-book. So far, I’m loving them all. That NEVER happens.

Music

I love to find new music and I’ve been obsessively listening to Tsh’s brothers playlists. She confided that all the cool music she finds is often from him and I agree. He’s got some great playlists going.  I listen to Reading and Writing all the time.

I also still have a major music crush on Josh Garrels. I love the lyrics and his voice. He is almost always playing around this house at least once a day.

Here’s another fun band I am really enjoying.

The Milk Carton Kids.

Television

I am not a big tv watcher. I’ll go months and months without watching a single show but when I do get into one, I tend to watch the entire season in one sitting. Seriously, it’s a problem. I know not to watch anything unless I have a bit of time to linger.

November holds the second anniversary when my dad passed away and I needed a bit of a retreat. I dived into Hart of Dixie because the internet buzz said it was very similar in style to Gilmore Girls, which I own and watch again every year. I ended up watching the entire first season of Hart of Dixie  in two days.

I also love Once Upon a Time, which we watch for family night each week. I love that the kids enjoy it and I’m not dying of boredom from kids shows.

After I watch OUAT, I head over to Megan’s blog for her weekly overview of the themes, plot lines, characters, and questions which arise in each episode. It’s so fun to read all the theories and to pick up on things I usually miss with my three-year old climbing on me. When there aren’t any new episodes we  also do these things for family night.

Handmade Lovelies

There is nothing that makes me feel more put together than jewelry, with the notable exception of mascara. One of my roommates at Influence happened to be Andi from The Hollie Rogue who also has this great little etsy shop selling these gorgeous necklaces. They are too cute and so original. I’ve gotten tons of compliments on mine and wanted to say a big thank you to Andi for the beautiful roomie gift. I wear it all the time. I love the mustard one pictured above and am pretty sure I need another one for my stocking this year.
So those are some of the things I’m into this November. What about you? What are some of your favorite things?

Okay so I love the Glass Castle and that covered button necklace in Gold! You have some great taste!

I just did my what I’m into this month as well and OUAT definitely made my list.

Thanks Leanne, I just finished reading it and I agree, it was so interesting. It reminds me a lot of my father’s stories from growing up. He had a very unconventional upbringing. And OUAT is highly addictive. I do hate waiting each week for a new episode, though.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I LOVE your red lips!

And we are sooo on the same page about Josh Garrels (and perhaps Eugene Peterson, too?) I love the Tiny Desk Concerts but I’ve never heard of the Milk Carton Kids; I’ll make space to listen to them in the next day or two.

Now that we can hulu/netflix/etc our shows, I love watching mine all at a go and not one very slow week at a time. In that sense it’s kinda fun for me to “catch up” on Once Upon a Time, since I’m 5ish episodes behind, but I’ve missed reading Megan’s posts every week about them!

I’m so glad you wanted to share what you’re into this month. (And I didn’t post mine till the 1st, so if you’re late, we’re late together.)

      Thanks darling,

Yes, loving Josh and Eugene! I would much prefer to watch in a row. I am very impatient and they always have these cliffhanger endings that make it excruciating to wait another week.

Ooo la la on the red lips! They’re sooo you. I have to go with the more violety reds as well. Orangy tones are a fail on me. And I’ve been in love with Andi’s necklaces for a while. Lucky for me I got one on a good Friday deal. I’m not looking at it until Christmas…so it’ll be a surprise, of course. ;)

Thanks Darcy, I’m not usually a red lipstick kind of girl but I needed a little pick me up this past month and sometimes trying new things turns out to be really fun. I opted out of all Black Friday stuff but I kind of wish I had been online for some of the handmade shops. I know there were a ton of great deals.

Ah, love it! thanks so much for the glowing review :). You are such a pretty red-lip wearer—i’m jealous :). also, glass castle is such a great book!

You are rocking the red lips! I’m in awe. Lipstick does not behave for me. I share your Josh Garrels obsession. If you ever get a chance to see him live, do not pass it up. Phenomenal yet stripped down show. I just came across the Milk Carton Kids yesterday! Hart of Dixie was compared to Gilmore Girls? Really? I think I’ve given up on HOD, though Wade still has a hold on my heart.

Thanks for linking up with What I’m Into!
